It’s the first primarily foreign-language No. 1 album in over 12 years.

Korean boy band BTS‘ U.S. breakthrough is complete. The group just earned its first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 as Love Yourself 轉 ‘Tear’ debuts with 135,000 equivalent album units (100,000 traditional album sales) in the week ending May 24, becoming the first K-pop album to top the chart in the process. It’s also the second K-pop album to reach the Top 10; BTS’ Love Yourself 承 Her debuted and peaked at No. 7 in October 2017.

Love Yourself 轉 ‘Tear’ also is the first primarily foreign-language No. 1 album in over 12 years. Classical crossover vocal quartet Il Divo topped the chart in February 2006 with Anocora, blending songs performed in Spanish, Italian and French.

More impressively, BTS knocks Post Malone’s juggernaut beerbongs & bentleys from the top spot after spending three consecutive weeks at No. 1. Elsewhere on the chart, Lil Baby bows at No. 3 with his debut studio album Harder Than Ever and NAV enters at No. 8 with his first studio LP RECKLESS.

Meanwhile, Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy rises to No. 5 and The Greatest Showman soundtrack dips to No. 6. J. Cole’s KOD falls to No. 7 as Black Panther: The Album holds at No. 9 and Playboi Carti’s Die Lit tumbles seven rungs in its second week to close out the Top 10.

Next week, Shawn Mendesself-titled album is projected to hold off A$AP Rocky’s new album TESTING for the top spot.
